Sorry for the delay, everyone -- I was given an opportunity to come to Martha's Vineyard for 7 weeks to focus on the novel I've been writing in my head for most of my adult life, so I took it. (The novel takes place on the Vineyard, so I've spent a lot of my time here exploring, researching, and interviewing the locals. I'm happy to report that the first draft is 2/3 done, and I couldn't be more excited about it!) I have learned two valuable things: in order to finish something the first step is to START IT, and the second step is to NOT STOP. ;) So, finishing this story that is so close to my heart is my top priority right now, and will remain so when I get back home next week.

However! I haven't forgotten that Crave needs an ending! In fact, now that I've adapted it into an original novel (yep, did that, too!), the sooner I wrap it up and put it to bed, the sooner I can figure out where to try to sell it. I know it's not going to be an easy pitch, what with it not being tailored to any specific genre, plus it's got the whole cheating angle... Anyone know of some fabulous publishing house that loves printing unconventional erotic romances with 10 initial chapters of UST leading into an adulterous May/December affair, with drama, intrigue, BDSM, and, oh yeah, it's also a comedy? ;)

I blame YOU, Joss Whedon.

Anyway, I will finish the Spuffy version of Crave ASAP. In the meantime, you should check out the new fic entries at seasonal_spuffy, which goes on through June 30th. Regretfully, due to this writing trip and work obligations, I couldn't get my entry done in time for my posting day, but there are plenty of super-talented people who could. Go over there and tell them how awesome they are.

Also, if you want to laugh (or cry, or hurl, depending), check out my latest plagiarism case. Someone "borrowed" entire sections of Crash and Burn for... wait for it... a Michael Jackson/Christina Aguilera rpf. I'll let that sink in for a minute.

(And yes, that is why I added all of those 'don't be a jerk' plagiarism warnings to every chapter of Crave. To be honest, I was seriously tempted to pack it in and take down everything I'd ever written, because what's it all for if idiots are just going to keep copying my labors of love? This was, what, the seventh time? That I knew of? And then... then someone wrote a really nice comment here about Crave, and I remembered why I do this. Because there is nothing quite like finding out that you've moved someone. There is also nothing quite like finding out that you've won fourteen awards at the SunnyDs, including 'Best Author' -- that totally made up for the pain of being plagiarized too, haha. Thanks to everyone who voted!)

By the way, there is still time to vote at the c2c_buffyawards, and the SunnyDs have just opened for new nominations.

I saw the SunnyD Awards yesterday, congrats!

I've had my work taken once and that hurt badly enough, can't imagine what having done repeatedly would feel like. I can't blame you for feeling as though packing it in would be a viable option, but as someone who's read your stuff for years I'm glad you won't be. (But, really, Michael & Christina ? WTF)

Best of luck on the book, Martha' Vineyard sounds like an intriguing setting.

I'm glad you worked in a satisfying way on your novel. I have a story close to my heart that I want to tell and your words here :"I have learned two valuable things: in order to finish something the first step is to START IT, and the second step is to NOT STOP. couldn't be more "à propos". :) That's a good advice that didn't fall on deaf ears.

I love your summary of Crave : mmm..everything in there is just delicious , to me anyway. ;) and because you're the one writing it , needless to say. I blame you, Nauti, and happily so !

Congrats on your awards - highly deserved.
I'm in the mood to immerse myself again in Crave , waiting eagerly for the ending.:)

Siren, Ellora's Cave, Samhain, Loose Id...there are a few more. Heehee!

Sorry about that whole plagiarism thing. When I saw your post on the moderation queue, I was all grrr arg!

Thanks for the suggestions! I looked at the Loose Id submission guidelines a while ago, and saw that one of their no-nos was adultery, so... there goes that. As for Ellorah's Cave, I think the last time I checked, they no longer take unsolicited submissions. I'll check out those other ones, though. :)

Michael Jackson and... Christina Aguilera? Pfffffffffft. The fact that such a thing exists is going to give me gigglefits for a good week at the least. Gosh.

And whenever this IS published, I'm so there, and with the cramming down throats and whatnot. I look forward to it in all it's papery glory.

Good to hear from you again :)
I'm still waiting for my happy spuffy ending of Crave - makes Buffy/Lindsey more bearable.

I hope I can finish reading it before you take it down (You will take it down from this comm I guess when you publish it?). I wouldn't mind if it would stay but I fear you'll won't be able to.

Good luck for your novel! And grrrrr for plagiarism. :((

*edit* Besides the ones sevvy_o mentioned there is http://www.alinarpublishing.com (moxie_fic and bittenandstaked founded this one if I remember correctly) or http://www.liquidsilverbooks.com/

Forgot to say too Congrats for your awards :)

Thank you for the links!

there is alinarpublishing (moxie_fic and bittenandstaked founded this one if I remember correctly)

You mean bittenandstaked, aka the person who blatantly copied my website layout, plagiarized my FAQ (in creepy Single White Female style), created an awards site so she could give herself awards, and is now selling an "original" novel called IN HEAT, which opens with a girl having a sex dream during a heatwave? (ie the exact same way my fanfic of the same title opens?)

Yeeeah.... no thanks. I think I'll pass on that one. :) I'm actually really surprised someone in the fandom went into business with her, but whatevs.

As for Crave, I'm not planning to take it down until someone tells me I have to. It's in a locked community, so it's not public, and it's not like non-fandom people would want to read this version. *shrug*

If I was a publisher I would publish you up the wazoo and do tons of marketing and makes you millions, cuz your writing deserves it. Am infinitely curious about other novels and works etc, especially Crave adapted into non-fanfic! I keep trying to get some of my friends to read some of my favorite stories of yours and they're all, "I'm not reading your Buffy Fanfiction, Cecilia" and I have to explain that it doesn't matter if they're not into Buffy, but they don't get it. Fools! It's just GOOD FICTION!!!!!
At any rate, I'm really happy to hear about your vinyarding, best of luck with novel! You continue to inspire me.

Congrats on the awards and boooo to the plagiarist! I suspect you are plagiarized more often than most people, though. I suppose you can view it as a back-handed compliment. A very annoying back-handed compliment. Given out by a very dishonest, slimy, lazy, ought-to-be-whipped person...

Congrats on beating me in every category on SunnyD (hahahahahaha! But really, congrats!) and thank you for the c2c pimp! (Did you vote yet? DO IT.)

I'm going to write Michael Jackson/X-tina fic in honor of your plagiarized fic, but it'll be AU/Human so I'm not sure I'll have a big following. We'll see... I *do* have plans for Michael to say "Sham-on!" while he's orgasming, so that'll probably bring in a big audience.

Good on you--7 weeks almost anywhere is a pretty awesome initial payment and yeah, hard sell on the story, but there's going to be some happy happy publishers when they start making bucks off that puppy!

Good on you, really hot fine writer! There's always jerks--you know that--and they don't always have their favorite parts drop off immediately when they do bad thangs--but you know this little old lady birdwatcher in tennis shoes down here in sTX would be a sad sad baby girl if'n there weren't you to look forward to! Okay, I'm heading out to plant my cenizo (sagebrush, yeah really!) and consider what a world it is--is there a special holding place for someone who would borrow C&B for Michael Jackson!?!?!?!?!oh holy dog do! We can only hope that the person's loved ones will have it held for observation--take care do not stop keep writing congratulations and you know, you didn't write a story today, but still brought tears to my eyes cos I've never met you but I'm real proud of you! Plus Ultra--what Colombus said, more beyond!

Opportunity to focus for seven weeks!? My mind boggles at what you could accomplish. I am so intrigued that my heartbreak over the lack of you at seasonal_spuffy is immediately all better. Go you! Start! Don't stop! Words for the ages!

Crave will make an incredible book, and I have hope that the multi-genre thing will become more acceptable. I know that I prefer to have a mix of things, just as in life, and I don't think I'm so unusual. (Is the Richard Branson allusion going to be a problem, you think?)

Fie on the plagiarist(s)! I have to give this one props for most wacky fandom, though. I mean, I would've just said "MJ/Xtina" and that would have been sufficient information to be rolling on the floor (apologies to Xtina). I'm genuinely sorry that you're dealing with this and have ever had to deal with it before. Grrrr. There oughta be a law! Oh, wait! There is one! It still sucks.

Congrats on the most excellent and plentiful awards! It does make things kinda sunny, eh?

Hello! Nice to hear from you. One must wonder what kind of world a person lives in that they can juxtapose Michael Jackson and Christina Aguiera for Spike and Buffy. Dude, they would have to plagiarize that shit because a person's brain would crawl out of a persons skull if they actually tried to imagine those two in any pervy entanglement. I am totally squwicked right now. Anyway...

Congrats on your novel. If only I could take 7 weeks of vacation, imagine what could be accomplished. So awesome. And congrats on the award! Thanks for the update!

So sorry to hear about plagiarism! That totally blows the big one. But WTF! MJ and Christina? That is beyond bizarre. I could have sat around all day coming up with bizarro pairings, and never have thought of that one in a million years.

I hope you never take your stories down. But understand if you do because of this frustration/horrible event. However, just want you to know, whenever I'm feeling depressed or very unfocused and need a bit of an escape from everything, I turn to your stories for a breath of fresh air. I've probably read Crave at least 4 times, and In Heat. Read Older again the other night. So so amazing! The quick-witted banter is like a drug for me.

Anyhow, in short, I would be very sad if you yanked it all down. Enjoy your time at the Vineyard!

Hi, I added you on LJ so I could see when you updated fics and read some of your closed community ones and to be honest I don't comment as often as I should, but when I read your post on plagiarism I felt that I had to say something.
I have seen writers in and out of the fandom give up writing and remove stories etc because they have been hurt by people stealing their work, which is a totally understandable reaction. But I think it takes a strong person to keep creating and writing, and I just wanted to thank you for doing that, and to say that you are an inspiration to many of us genuine writers who are just getting started, and the fandom would not be the same without your work.

That's really awful about the plagiarism, with a side of ridiculous. But I'm glad you see that for every case that you have come across like that, there are hundreds of people who appreciate what you do whether we let you know or not.

Big congrats on getting so far into your novel! It must be so fulfilling to be making such progress on something you've dreamed of for a long time :D You'll be making it available to your adoring public at some point, I hope ;D

Plagiarism S-U-C-K-S. Really hope it never gets to the point where you want to take down your work, because it is just too many kinds of awesome to have it disappear from the interwebs forever. About once a year I get a huge Nauti craving and have no choice but to go back and read everything you've ever written due to the aforementioned awesomeness. That said, I can't believe someone would be slimy and just... insane? I'm gonna say insane... enough to steal something as genius as C&B for the purposes of an MJ/CA fic...... like........ WHAT?! Grrr.

Also, sad to hear your seasonal spuffy entry didn't work out. Please tell me you still plan on posting it at some point though, because the description you gave of it was incredibly intriguing (that's the fic you were writing with dampersnspoons, correct?).

Anyhoo, glad to hear that your trip was so fulfilling, and can't wait to see what you've got in store for us!! :D

Nauti, you remain one of my favorite all time writers. The first time I read Crave, you were already up to Chapter 30, and I literally spent an entire Saturday laughing, crying, and making whooshy-omg-that-did-not-just-happen noises. And then wanting more. So don't worry, your fans know you, and we know your work, and we love you for it. (And I'm so excited to hear you're writing a novel! It'll be awesome for sure.)

Secondly, how is it that people don't understand the concept of plagiarism? Being "inspired" is one thing, and lifting entire passages from someone's work is another matter entirely. It blows my mind. Um... and PYT+Genie in a Bottle? Yeah.... um.... no.

You nearly gave me a heart attack there when I read you were considering taking your fic off the net. Your work was one of the first introductions I had to Spuffy fanfiction, which to this day, they still have a special place in my heart. I have to say I would be very sad if not only I, but others would somehow not be able to access your wonderful stories, cause they're truly great works of fiction in that not only are they filled with steamy sex and romance, but that you take these great characters Buffy and Spike from the show and you make them your own.

Well, this is interesting considering that I just read this lj post while sitting in Edgartown.

I was just about to start reading Crave (sorry in advance for bombarding your inbox with comments on old chapters) when I noticed this. I'm really interested in your Vineyard story! I would love to read it once all is said and done; do you plan on promoting it on your lj? I know some authors prefer to keep their original fiction separate from their fanfic, and others don't. I didn't see anything in your site about original fiction, so I figured I'd ask :)

From your post it sounds like you've already gotten a lot of information from the islanders, but if you ever need a quick question answered or something, feel free to ask me. I've long since cleared out my lj, so if you do wind up wanting to ask me anything, comment and I'll give you my email address. I don't live here year-round, but I have spent approximately 2 months here every year for a loooong time, so I do know my fair share.

...Michael Jackson and Christina Aguilera? Really?
Maybe she thought Spike would make a good Michael because they both... have... yeahno, I've got nuthin'.

In all seriousness though, I'm not even sure what people who plagiarize get out of it. Any praise they get is hollow, considering what they've stolen and called their own. I'm sure you've heard this a thousand times by now, but more never hurts. Really, thank you for being here and for letting us read your writing. So far, I've only read the fic on your website, but I can't wait to start with Crave and comment. Even if there are those out there who will steal and take, there are many of us who really appreciate the hard work you've done. Thank you.
